Farhadi to receive Variety’s award

Asghar Farhadi is to be honored at the Palm Springs Int’l filmfest in the US.

Two-time Oscar-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has been set to be honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) in the US.

Variety, American Media Company, will bestow its Creative Impact in Directing Award to Farhadi at the 33rd edition of the PSIFF.

The award will be a part of magazine’s “annual “10 Directors to Watch” and Creative Awards brunch at the Parker Palm Springs”, according to Variety website.

Director of ‘A Separation’ will be celebrated for his latest feature ‘A Hero’ and his entire artistic productions such as ‘Everybody Knows’ and ‘The Salesman’.

‘A Hero’ will be screened at the “Award Buzz – Best International Feature Film Submissions” category of the PSIFF.

‘A Hero’ is about Rahim, a divorced man who has been imprisoned due to unpaid debt. During a two-day leave, Rahim tries to prove that he is a good person.

The Iranian movie is announced among the feature films eligible for consideration at the International Feature Film category of the 94th Academy Awards.

The movie is starring Amir Jadidi, Mohsen Tanabandeh, and Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee.

‘A Hero’ was awarded the Grand Prix at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in France. The prize was shared by Juho Kuosmanen’s ‘Compartment No.6’.

Farhadi’s movie was also awarded the Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Original Screenplay by the National Board of Review in the US.

The 33rd edition of the PSIFF will open on January 7, 2022, and run until January 16.
